Kreischer Mansion, located in Staten Island, NY, is a well-known haunted site of Charleston. It is famous for its many appearances on the TV show Ghost Adventures, which was filmed here in June 2008.
Kreischer Mansion is a huge three-story building that was built by a German immigrant named Martin Kreischer and his family.
Kreischer Mansion is also known as Kreischer House and is located at 4500 Arthur Kill Road, Staten Island.
The bewitching appearance has developed many rumors about ghosts that are said to haunt this house, some people even believe they’ve seen these ghosts themselves.
It is said that Martin Kreischer was the first person of German descent to own property in Charleston. He was an industrialist who owned a dry dock on Staten Island, where he made his money.
The mansion itself has seen some history. It was briefly used as an orphanage in 1875 after it had been vacated by its original tenants.
A little under a decade later in 1883, it became a hotel and was renamed the Kreischer Mansion Hotel. Several sources state that this is when the most paranormal activity occurred: specifically during the time period of 1887-1908 when it was used as a hotel for guests.
However, there are some reports that date back as early as 1872, when the Kreischer family still resided in the home.
Later, in 1910, the Kreischer Mansion was purchased by a man named William Beckers. He renamed it “Oakwood” and carved out an estate of about 23 acres that stretched from Richmond Road to Arthur Kill Road. It then became his family’s summer home, as he resided in Brooklyn year-round.
In 1968, a fire broke out and burned Oakwood to the ground. After the fire, it was rebuilt into a home that is still standing today.
Witnesses have claimed that they have seen two different apparitions at Kreischer Mansion: one being Martin Kreischer’s wife and another being a guest of the hotel. Martin Kreischer’s wife has been witnessed looking out of windows and pacing back and forth in a nearby room. The other apparition is of a man who appears on the second-floor balcony with his hands resting on the railing.
Kreischer House, also known as Kreischer Mansion, is a historic home located at Charleston, Staten Island, New York City. Built by German immigrant Balthasar Kreischer about 1885, it is a large, asymmetrically massed 2+1⁄2-story, wood-frame house in the American Queen Anne style.
