Tottenville High School, located in Staten Island, NY, is the oldest high school on Staten Island. It was established in 1898. The first classes were held in an old hotel near Tompkinsville, where the Staten Island Ferry still runs today. As more people moved to Staten Island, so too did the need for a larger high school. Later, Tottenville High School was officially established at the current location in Stapleton. Since then, it has been a prime source of education in Staten Island.
The school colors are green and white, which is reflected in some of the building designs. Tottenville High School sponsors 18 varsity sports teams for both boys and girls. They compete in three divisions of New York City’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL). These include Varsity Division A, B, and C. A number of athletes from Tottenville High School have competed in major league sports.
The school also has a special education program for those with learning disabilities. The Special Education Department at Tottenville High School focuses on preparing students to live, work and succeed in life after high school.

In 2002, Tottenville High School won the PSAL city championship for track and field. The school achieved this victory even though it had been heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy just a few months before. The staff worked hard to have the field ready in time for the spring season.
Tottenville High School offers many AP classes including English Language, English Literature, Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, and History.
The most recent addition to the school is a new field house in 2010 with a fitness center and aerobics room which will be used by students after school hours. It also includes an art room/pottery studio that has three pottery wheels and an electric kiln.
