Warinanco Park, NJ, is the ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. The park consists of many types of outdoor recreation facilities, trails, and areas. In addition to trails for hiking and horseback riding, there are lakes where fishing is permitted as well as a bird sanctuary that is home to various species of wildfowl. The main entrance to the park, on Lafayette Avenue, leads to the Warinanco Lake which is surrounded by picnic tables and grills for use by visitors. The carousel (picnic areas) is open seasonally during the day. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Warinanco Park has four lakes: Limecrest Lake, Warinanco Lake, Beaver Brook Lake, and Caribou Pond. These lakes are stocked with several types of fish including carp, pickerel, catfish sunfish, and largemouth bass. Boat rentals are available at the park office during the summer months for use on one or all of the lakes. The trails lead through a variety of habitats and provide opportunities to see a variety of wildlife including bald eagles, wild turkeys, ducks, geese, turtles, and salamanders.
The Warinanco Lake is home to the famous “Warinanco Carousel” which opened on Easter Sunday in 1923. The carousel has been one of the landmarks of Union County for over 90 years. One of the main attractions at this carousel is the ring-chute, a ferris wheel-type ride for children.
The Warinanco Park also has two playgrounds that are open to visitors year round. The Drum Hill Playground is located off of Farview Avenue and is home to several baseball diamonds as well as a smaller playground. The larger playground is located near the main entrance to Warinanco Park off of Lafayette Avenue and has two primary play areas for children separated by age group.
The park has an archery range open year-round where guests can try their hand at target practice and is open to visitors age 16 and older during the winter season.
There is a model airplane field in Warinanco Park, NJ that attracts pilots from several counties for organized events.
One of the more notable features of the park is its equestrian trail network. The trail system consists of more than ten miles of wide, crushed limestone trails that are perfect for riding. The park also has stables available to the public where guests can board their horses for an entire month at a time.
